AIPWA, BMS demand adoption of Women's Bill
Press Trust of India / Patna Jun 10, 2009, 11:55 IST

All India Progressive Women's Association (AIPWA) and Bihar Mahila Samaj (BMS) today reiterated their demand for passage of the Women's Reservation Bill in Lok Sabha within 100 days of the UPA coming to power at the Centre.

"Women are in favour of the bill which requires to be passed by Lok Sabha within 100 days of the UPA re-capturing power at the Centre," AIPWA representatives Meena Tiwari and Saroj Choubey said today.

They said the activists of the AIPWA and BMS took out a procession here yesterday in support of the demand and alleged that Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav's stand on the issue had exposed the anti-reservation group.

"The opposition to the bill by certain leaders reflects that they are afraid of losing their seats in parliament," Choubey said.

They said the bill would empower women belonging to scheduled caste and scheduled tribe category and other backward castes.

They threatened to intensify their agitation if the bill was not passed within the time limit.
