It seems that relations between the National Conference leadership in Jammu & Kashmir and the Congress are turning sour. During the run-up to the general elections, J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah took off for seven days and went abroad. The Congress leadership was irked because he left the election campaign midway and, more importantly, he did not take the mandatory approval of the Prime Minister for his foreign tour. Now, as the border state has again turned into a cauldron over the alleged rape and murder of two women, the Centre has decided to send Home Minister P Chidambaram to Srinagar on Thursday. Congress managers say the Abdullahs are opposing Chidambaram’s visit and want no direct intervention by the Centre.
