Foreign exchange trading services provider, Alpari today launched its Indian operations by offering its forex trading platform for institutional and retail customers.
The company, which will initially operate from Mumbai, has targeted to acquire at least 1,000 clients in the next six months, Alpari's Head of Global Sales, Andreas Wigstrom told reporters here.
"Alpari India will create a new investment medium, provide an institution level trading experience for retail investors and present hedging opportunities for the corporates at a lower cost," Wigstrom said.
Indian forex market has grown from $2 billion in April 1998 to over $34 billion by April 2007 and is expected to grow at a faster pace in the period ahead, he said.
Globally, forex market has a daily turn over of $3.8 trillion currently, which is expected to surpass $5 trillion by 2010, Wigstrom said.
Alpari has targeted an annual volume in excess of $3.5 billion in the retail investor segment and plans to open new offices in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Germany, France, Canada, British Columbia, Brazil and Mexico in the coming days, he said.
The company has also plans to offer free training to customers to help investors make informed and responsible trading decisions.
At present, Alpari group has 26 offices in seven countries and has around 300 employees worldwide.

RBI & Indian government needs to open up Indian markets & allow Indians to trade in other markets & vice versa. RBI has failed miserably & that should be very obvious with the inflation that they simply CAN'T control the markets nor can anyone else but these guys in the government just love their power & dictatorial attitude towards people. People should be to invest their money however & wherever they want, after all its THEIR money, government does NOT own them.
HI, Forex market is continually being targeted by RBI, first they made credit cards a problem now banks have an official outlaw of fx funds abroad.. the good side is that now futures are increasing in volume. in relation to the item about alpari i think the ceo - pramit is involved in a company called krish commodities with mr suresh. not sure why this is happening but it is breaching sebi and fsa rules on client confidentiality

Dear Sir/Madams,
This is to inform that what has been written here is absolutely incorrect and untruthful and has been aimed to malign the image of a company that is working in a law-abiding and regulatory compliant environment. Let me put the following things on record:
a) RBI has never questioned Alpari India's activities and the company has all the necessary compliance permissions to do the business in India.
b) Mr. Pramit Brahmbhatt, CEO, Alpari India neither owns and nor is associated with any other entity in India except Alpari.
c) Interbank FX is not related with Alpari India or Pramit Brahmbhatt in any ways.
If there are any queries for anyone to be addressed, I will be happy address. Please do write to me on mediarelations@alpari.co.in
Best regards,
Monjit Gogoi
Head ? Marketing,
Alpari India
alpari forex in india was raided by RBI, they are currently under investigation. mr pramit bramhbatt also has a company in gujrat where he transfer most of the alpari business. dont be surprised if you get a call from interbank fx from UK apparently mr pramit is there IB.
rbi has released stricter regulation and i think people should be educated about the problems. i am an IB for many large brokerages namely tradenextglobal dot com my email raviforex123@yahoo.co.uk

Right Sameer, I had been also curious to know about legal issues of forex trading in India. Why experts are not revealing the detailed facts? Neither written clearly anywhere whether legal or not.
Requests to financial experts, please let us know the fact.
