Alstom `Stay Rings` for Subansiri project

Vadodara-based hydro unit of Alstom Projects India Limited (APIL) has dispatched major components - Stay
 
Rings - of the first three turbines currently under manufacturing for the Subansiri Lower Hydro Electric project in states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
 
The electromechanical scope of NHPC-owned 2000 Mw Subansiri Lower project, considered to be the largest hydro electric project in India, was awarded to Alastom Projects India Limited in February 2005.
 
Talking about Stay Rings, Alain Sphor, Unit Director, APIL Hydro facility said, “The timely dispatch of ‘Stay Rings’ for the Subansiri Lower Hydro Electric project is a major achievement for Alstom’s Vadodara facility, and an important milestone for the project as well. Subansiri is one of the most significant power projects in the country, and it is a matter of pride for each one of us to be associated with it.”
 
‘Stay Rings’ — major component and the main foundation of a turbine ¿ are massive pieces of 45 tonnes each, which were fully designed, assembled and machined in Alstom’s factory during the last six months. The site of the project is also being mobilised by a team of engineers along with Alstom Construction Manager and Erection Contractor for erection of the hydro turbine equipment.
 
Alstom Projects India Ltd (APIL) offers a composite range of services for transportation systems covering traction, signalling and train control for the Railways and energy management for a variety of industries.
 
One of the oldest foreign companies in the country, Alstom employs over 3,000 people across its six engineering centres, a software technology facility at Bangalore, four manufacturing units (Hydro in Vadodara, Boilers in Durgapur & Shahabad and Transport in Coimbatore) and has sales offices in Mumbai, Gurgaon and Kolkata.
 
Alastom Projects India Ltd has a turnover of Rs 1,250 crore and is listed on the BSE and NSE with 33 per cent of its shares with the public.
