Alstom, ABB, Gulf Oil, MRPL & Educomp Q1 results

Alstom Q1 net up 4.5%

Alstom Projects India posted a 4.5 per cent increase in net profit to Rs 18.3 crore for the quarter ended June 2008 as compared to Rs 17.5 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.

The firm’s total income has also increased 50.3 per cent from Rs 250 crore to Rs 375.8 crore. Alstom is a major supplier of power plant equipments in India.

ABB Q2 net up 21%

ABB India, the Bangalore-based power and automation technologies provider, today reported 21 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 131.8 crore for the second quarter ended June 30, 2008 compared to the corresponding quarter last year.

This was boosted by a 11 per cent jump in order intake at Rs 2208 crore as against the same quarter last year. ABB’s revenues in the second quarter went up by 16 per cent to Rs 1,637.6 crore compared to the same quarter last year. The total order backlog during the quarter stood at Rs 6,776.9 crore, a growth of 46 per cent over the same quarter last year.

Gulf Oil net up 4.69%

Hyderabad-based Gulf Oil Corporation, a Hinduja Group company, recorded a 4.69 per cent increase in its net profit to Rs 5.57 crore for the first quarter ended June 2008, as compared with Rs 5.32 crore during the same period last year.

Total revenues touched Rs 236.61 crore during the quarter, as against Rs 172.41 crore in the corresponding quarter a year ago, up 37.23 per cent.

MRPL net at Rs 845.4 cr

Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals’ (MRPL) net profit more than doubled at Rs 845.4 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2008 as compared to Rs 368.55 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2007.

Total income of the company was up 46 per cent from Rs 7,376 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2007 to Rs 10,747 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2008, said the company statement.

Educomp net doubles

Educomp Solutions, first quarter net profit zoomed to Rs 16.7 crore, more than doubled from Rs 5.9 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.

The company’s revenue was up 152.3 per cent, to touch Rs 69.4 crore from Rs 27.5 crore. Sequentially, the company’s profits declined by 47 per cent while the income fell by 45 per cent. The Q-o-Q numbers were down as the business is seasonal, said the company.
