Ambani brothers meet top government officials
Press Trust of India / New Delhi Sep 16, 2009, 21:33 IST

Brothers Mukesh and Anil Ambani, who are locked in a bitter row over supply of natural gas, today separately met top government officials.

Mukesh Ambani called on officials, including Petroleum Secretary R S Pandey while younger brother Anil met Power Secretary H S Brahma.

Spokespersons for both Anil and Mukesh declined to comment and the exact agenda of the meeting is not known.

Anil Ambani is seeking to enforce a 2005 family settlement that provides for his firm RNRL getting a minimum of 28 million standard cubic meters per day from elder brother Mukesh Ambani-run Reliance Industries (RIL) at $2.34 per million British thermal unit, 44 per cent lower than the Government approved price of the fuel.

Some sources believe Mukesh Ambani may have asked the government to quickly decide on users of KG-D6 field gas as RIL was being forced to produce less than capacity in the absence of Government mandated consumers.

RIL can produce about 64 mmscmd of gas but is restricting output to just 36-36 mmscmd as Government is yet to name consumers beyond the initial 40 mmscmd.

Anil may have in his meeting with Brahma discussed issues like land acquisition problems facing his group firm Reliance Power's 4,000 Mw coal-based ultra mega power project at Sasan in Madhya Pradesh.
