"Focus would definitely be on animation, gaming and designing space looking at data available... Visual computing in India is expected to touch USD 160 million at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.6 per cent," AMD Senior Director (Professional Graphics) Janet Matsuda told PTI today.

The partnership is one such step to help the industry develop high quality games at faster speeds, she added.

Hyderabad-based FXLabs will use AMD's 'ATI Firepro' graphics card to develop a game based on Bollywood, but has not finalised the film it wants to base the game on.

The US-based firm is also looking at the manufacturing space like automobile and aircaft designing for new clients.

"The animation and gaming industry is already using our cards but no estimates are available as we sell to vendors like HP and Dell who do not give out these numbers," AMD India VP (Sales and Marketing) Ramkumar Subramanian said.

According to a Nasscom report, the animation industry in India was estimated at USD 460 million in 2008, and would grow at CAGR of 27 per cent to USD 1.1 billion by 2012.

The Indian gaming industry is expected to reach $1.06 billion by 2012 at a CAGR of 50 per cent.
