Amity University to expand in India, abroad
Kirtika Suneja / New Delhi Oct 05, 2009, 00:33 IST

Education group Amity University plans to expand its presence in the country and abroad by opening more campuses.

In India, Amity has two campuses in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan but plans to open a campus in every region in the next 8-10 years. Of these, a campus in Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) and Manesar (Gurgaon, Haryana) will be operational soon.

The ‘Gurgaon campus’ in its first phase require Rs 60 crore. Further investments will happen as more blocks come up and programmes start rolling out. Usually, a university campus takes about five phases to be complete.

As for its foreign operations, Amity recently opened campuses in Singapore and London in collaboration with Anglia Ruskin University that will award degrees to students. The two foreign campuses are already up and running.

“Going ahead, two more foreign campuses will be operational and we are looking at the US, Australia and Middle East for this,” said Aseem Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity University Rajasthan.

Amity currently offers more than 130 programmes to its students but will add specialised programmes in nuclear science and technology only in one location. The student strength at the varsities ranges between 6,000-18,000 with the student-teacher ratio at 15:1.The education group also runs schools and at present has 8 schools in the NCR region.

“We will add more schools in our portfolio in places like Mumbai besides launching in places where we are already present through our university campuses,” said Chauhan. In total, Amity has 35 campuses of universities and schools.

On alliances with foreign universities, Chauhan said: “We have 80 agreements in place for joint research programmes, patent filing, publications, faculty exchange programmes and will continue with them.”
