BS Reporter / Chennai/ Hdyerabad Jul 21, 2009, 00:48 IST

The Andhra Pradesh government has sought Rs 46,336 crore from the Centre for implementing and upgrading various schemes. Of this, it has sought at least Rs 20,000 crore for irrigation projects and Rs 3,550 crore for roads.

In a memorandum presented to the 13th Finance Commission, the state government also wanted it to identify seven projects as national projects to reduce the burden on the state exchequer.

Speaking to the media, finance minister K Rosaiah said the state had sought about Rs 2,529 crore for roads connectivity, education, potable water and health infrastructure, Rs 67.3 crore for upgrading of police force including arms and ammunition, Rs 500 crore for improvement of prison administration, Rs 4,540 crore for rural water scheme and Rs 300.3 crore for fortifying the seed production among others.

The state government proposes to set up a reform incentive fund with Rs 100 crore. It has sought Rs 550 crore for developing Tirupati, Vijayawada and Rajahmundry airports and another Rs 500 crore for greenfield airports apart from Rs 1,315 crore for developing non-major sea ports. Andhra Pradesh would need about Rs 395 crore for tribal area development, Rs 400 crore for extending 104 mobile units to rural areas and Rs 1,500 crore for providing medical facilities to the poor and conducting operations under Arogyasri, a flagship programme of the state, he said.

It would need about Rs 1,500 crore for road maintenance contracts.

The state would see a big resource gap as its revenue receipts are likely to fall short by Rs 8,000 crore and capital receipts by Rs 10,000 crore in the 2008-09 fiscal, for which the final accounts are being prepared, due to the global slowdown.
