The Andhra Pradesh government is proposing to introduce a new medical insurance scheme for the below poverty line (BPL) families in the state.
The proposed scheme, to be implemented in a public-private partnership mode with a third party administrator or an insurance company, is likely to be launched on January 14, 2007.
The scheme would cover around 1.76 crore white card holding families, and the premium per individual beneficiary is likely to be just Rs 100 a year and an average family Rs 300 a year, a press release said.
The state will provide 50 per cent subsidy and an individual might have to pay just Rs 50 a year to get a variety of medical benefits.
The beneficiary can avail of all the treatments including surgery at any of the network private multi-specialty hospitals or government medical colleges (special wards).
The insuring companies will pay up to Rs 2 lakh and the rest will be borne by the respective network hospitals, it said.
