Apalya to add 25 channels
Itishree Samal / Chennai/ Hyderabad Dec 14, 2010, 00:00 IST

Hyderabad-based Apalya Technologies, a mobile video platform developer and owner of ‘MiMobiTV’ service, is planning to add 25 more channels in the coming two months.

The company has tied up with operators including Idea, Vodafone, Airtel, Aircel, BSNL, Tata Indicom, and provides a bouquet of 125 channels.

“We are hopeful of adding another 25 channels to take the number to 150 channels in addition to tying up with all the service providers,” B Vamshi Krishna Reddy, director of Apalya, said.

The company recently entered a strategic partnership with Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific for programmes from the latter's five networks in India-Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, Discovery Turbo, and Discovery.

“The tie up with Discovery is more strategic for us, where we want to do a lot of on-demand content as well as video streaming,” Reddy added. The deal is only for Indian consumers.

Apalya is planning to launch its services in Southeast Asia and South Africa by next quarter. “Currently, the Indian mobile TV market is very small and is expected to touch $ 600 million in the next five years after the roll-out of third generation (3G) and high-end mobile services,” he said.

The company expects to take it consumer base to 10 million from the current 3.5 million by 2013 after the 3G roll out. It registered revenues of $3-4 million.
