| Chief of Army staff, General J J Singh and Air vice-marshal T S Randhwa signed a charter for strengthening the internal relationship between the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force.
| |
| The agreement was signed at a special ceremony organised at Maratha Light Infantry Regiment Centre (MLIRC) here recently.
| |
| The Indian Army ensured the affiliation of the prestigious 20 Air Force Squadron (Sukhoi) to the MLIRC. Air marshal P K Mishra was present on the occasion. The two signatories exchanged trophies and flags to mark the occasion.
| |
| Later speaking to mediapersons, Singh said coming together of the wings of Armed services was to bring in more camaraderie and create a better understanding so that both benefited from mutual experience and professionalism.
| |
| The affiliation would enable all the battalions of MLIRC to visit Lohegaon in Pune, the headquarter of Sukhoi squadron.
| |
| He said this would help the Army to build cohesion and understand the role and functioning of the squadron. It would also enable the Army to develop better understanding of the IAF units and their role and strategies during war and thus help the former to have a better coordination between the two forces.
| |
| He asserted that the three services coming together to fight the enemy meant certain victory. However, he remained non-committal on the possibility of joint exercises with China.
| |
| Randhwa said the event was an important milestone in the history of the IAF and a great honour for the squadron. Air marshal P K Mehra said a similar affiliation had been extended to the Indian Navy.
| |
| General Singh later inaugurated the Southern Command Shooting Node in the Weapon Training Area on the MLIRC campus.
| |
| The node, with a 10 metre modern shooting range with a facility of 20 electronically moving targets equipped with latest weapons and equipment, is set up to promote shooting as a sport in the Army and train its personnel to achieve greater excellence at international level. |
