Amit Syngle, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Asian Paints said, "Asian Paints initiated Colour Next six years ago to study colour trends that are specific to the Indian market. Today, Colour Next is probably one of the most comprehensive trend researches done in the area of colour. The uniqueness of the entire process stems from the fact that thought leaders from varied disciplines come together to articulate the trends and colour palettes."

The 5 Themes for Colour Next 09

Indigene: - The words that describe Indigenous best; Vibrant, Quirky and Indigenous. India is representative of a billion colours just as its people. Each unique, exemplifying faith, festivity and freedom. Indigene is confident & global in its outlook. A new resurgent India draped in optimism and ready for the world. Free of shackles from the past, this DNA of young India is fun, quirky & irreverent. Consisting of earthy tone and shades, they represent the colours that best describe the new India.

Earth Song:- It represents responsibility, being Alive and Fresh. It is knowing that every small step will make a difference. An answer to the challenges our Earth faces. Earth Song is beyond colours, shades and light. It resonates softer colours that have a soothing effect, think environmental friendliness.

Multiplicity: - It rings with Passion, Duality and is Multidimensional. A world beginning to recognize that life is too short to be one track, chasing just a single dream. Fading the lines between profession and interests, between shades of grey and colours at play.  One-dimensional is passé & juggling new challenges is fun. A melting pot of colours. It makes way for contrasting shades, subdued tones and everything in between.

Homepage: - Representative of the New Age, the My space generation explores creativity beyond the virgin canvas and onto virtual space – E Creative. A connected world where technology is the new enabler. All the world is a stage and all are welcome to make vivid their expression. Colours that dominate the virtual world and cyber space. Of the digital era, the theme is inspired by the Gen - Y.

Metropolis: - It shouts, Urban, Authoritative and Masculine. Inspired by the straight lines & masculine forms of the modern city, these colours are for the individual who belongs to the Urbane. The colour palette is vigorous, yet sublime and personal. These are dominating colours that speak the bold language of the urban individual.

The Research Process
Asian Paints Colour Next, the world’s first India-specific colour forecast, has, over the last 6 years, developed and fine tuned a proprietary research process to study the Indian design and décor space. Thus identifying the emerging directions and develop design themes and colour palettes around them. The process spread over 6 months and spanning India, involved interactions with a cross section of society, from direct consumers, to designers, to opinion leaders. A wide variety of research methodologies like visual scans, documentation of visual spaces, in-depth interviews, focused group discussions and creative workshops are used during the research.  The output was then ratified by two panels of industry leaders and is finally presented in the form of the Colour Next Palette of Lead Colours & Supporting Colours for 2009-10.
