Asia's leading Sports Marketing Company World Sport Group Signs on Gautam Gambhir
Announcement / Corporate Oct 08, 2009, 18:38 IST

World Sport Group, Asia’s leading sports, marketing, media and events management company which is at the centre of the Asian sporting revolution has signed on ICC Test Cricketer of the Year Gautam Gambhir in its Player Management division.

Commenting on the development, World Sport Group CEO, Venu Nair said, “In the last year or so, with the advent of the IPL, players and their earnings are at the centre of all the media attention. Truth be told, the scale of the IPL notwithstanding, the real heavy hitters among the cricketers are still driven by endorsements and salaries constitute a relatively smaller portion of their income. Recognizing this, and building upon the solid body of work we have done with Sachin Tendulkar, World Sport Group has in India added a second cricketer to its portfolio. Gautam Gambhir – India’s opening batsman in all forms of the game currently adds a left hander dimension to the master right hander we already represent. The association is a long term one and is for Gautam’s worldwide representation rights”

Also speaking about the move was Harish Krishnamachar – Vice President – South Asia who said, “At WSG, we believe, Gautam has the potential to be India’s best batsman over the next 5 year period. He has been very consistent in all formats of the game and has the flexibility to adapt and play as the situation demands. Importantly, from a sponsorship point of view Gautam has all the credentials, is articulate, has the ability and is not over exposed.”

As one of the few players from the metro in the “greats minus one removed generation” of players WSG believes the urban adoption by brands of Gautam will be one of the key drivers for his popularity.”-Mr. Krishnamachar added

“Gautam Gambhir has been India’s answer to opening batsmen woes after the legend” - Sunil Gavaskar, especially in the longest form of the game. Starting with the 2007-2008 season Gautam has used the success he found in the limited overs version of the game and transferred that to the Test arena. The successes have been both home and away. His feats in the recent past have culminated in his being awarded the Arjuna Award in 2009 and most recently the International Cricket Council Award

Gautam himself spoke about the association withWSG and had the following to say “WSG had all the credentials I needed, importantly they seem to understand the space and comfort that a cricketer needs. My reassurance comes from the fact that they have successfully looked after Sachin’s interest and the people who will look after my interests gave me a great deal of comfort.”
