Aurobindo Pharma Limited, a Hyderabad-based manufacturer of generic pharmaceuticals and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), has received the final approval for carisoprodol tablets USP in 350mg strength from the US Food and Drug Administration (US FDA), taking its total number of abbreviated new drug application (ANDA) approvals from the US drug regulator to 100.

Carisoprodol tablets USP 350mg, the generic equivalent to Soma Tablets of Meda Pharmaceuticals, are muscle relaxants and are indicated as an adjunct to rest, physical therapy and other measures for the relief of discomfort associated with acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions.

Aurobindo scrip is currently trading at Rs 581.60 on the BSE, down 3.76 per cent against the previous close of Rs 604.35.
