Chief Ministers of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, Prakash Singh Badal and Prem Kumar Dhumal are in Israel to seek cutting edge technologies for water management. "Israel has made these technologies a household thing and we are quite impressed by their achievements. We would look for possibilities of cooperation," Badal said.
Dhumal and Badal, are leading a high-level delegation from their respective states to Israel to explore possibilities of cooperation in water related technologies.
"Israel has made a remarkable progress in these areas and we see a lot of possibilities for cooperation. Water crisis is something that we all have to deal with," Dhumal said. "Israeli fruit growing techniques can also be replicated in certain parts of Himachal", he said.
They are visiting the Jewish state to identify sources of cutting edge technologies in this area, desalination, waste-water management and reverse osmosis with Israeli firms. The Himachal Chief Minister will be visiting fruit growing areas, especially apple growing farms in the upper Galilee region, to explore possibilities of cooperation.
"The weather in upper Galilee and Himachal Pradesh are quite similar. We believe that the technologies being used in northern Israel can be of immense help in improving the fruit yield in Himachal," Director of NaanDan Jain Irrigation systems Amnon Ofen said.
Badal has been holding extensive talks with Israeli experts in the field of agriculture, water management and alternative energy.
His Media Adviser Harsh Charan Bains said that he will be spending a lot of time trying to understand the technological progress made in Israel and how Punjab can benefit from it. "We have major investment plans in Punjab because agriculturally, it is the most advanced state in India. Most of the farmers there have large holdings and that also would be quite helpful in employing our technologies", often said while discussing possibilities in Punjab.
The two Chief ministers also met Israel's Industry, Trade and Labour minister, Benjamin Ben-Eliezer at the inauguration ceremony of WATEC Israel 2009, an international exhibition and conference on water related technologies, being held in Tel Aviv this week.
They will be meeting separately with the Israeli minister later during the day to discuss possibilities of cooperation. Israel's deputy foreign minister, Danny Ayalon, will also be calling upon the Dhumal tomorrow in Jerusalem to discuss about regional issues, an official at the Israeli foreign ministry said.
Agriculture conglomerate, Jain Irrigation Systems, bought 50.01 per cent of Na'anDan Irrigation systems for 21. The largest investment by an Indian company in Israel was $5 million in June 2007.
