Bajaj Auto sales fall 4.52% in June
Press Trust of India / New Delhi Jul 02, 2009, 13:01 IST

Two-wheeler maker Bajaj Auto today reported a 4.52 cent fall in motorcycle sales at 167,945 units in June against 1,75,903 units in the same month last year.

Total two-wheeler sales during the month stood at 168,471 units, a decrease of 4.88 per cent over the same month last year, Bajaj Auto Ltd (BAL) said in a statement.

The company sold 177,112 units of two-wheelers in the same period a year ago.

BAL's exports, however, went up by 4.39 per cent to 67,726 units in June from 64,878 units a year ago.

The company's total vehicle sales stood at 193,202 units last month compared to 196,741 units in the same period a year ago, down 1.80 per cent, the statement added.

"With the launch of the new Pulsar 220 DTS-i in June, Bajaj expects Pulsar sales to rise further beyond 48,062 units it sold in June," BAL said, adding that it expects to record double digit growth in motorcycle sales from August after the coming launch of its new large volume motorcycle this month.

Domestic commercial vehicle sales have begun to grow on the back of marketing initiatives focused on the in-city segment, the company said.

"Exports have normalised after the dip in January-March 2009 and are expected to gradually exhibit positive year-on- year growth," it added.
