The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) authorities have decided to not use the Bandra-Worli sea link here till the Maharashtra government scales down the toll charges.
The state government has proposed to levy Rs 100 per trip per bus for using the sea link.
"We will not run BEST buses till the state government reduces the toll charges. If more trips are to be made per day, we will have to pay more for the toll charges and may have to increase the fares," BEST's Chairman Dilip Patel said.
"We do not want to burden our passengers and so we have decided that no buses will run on the sea link," Patel said.
The state had earlier proposed to levy Rs 5,000 per bus per month for using the sea link but BEST asked it to reduce it by Rs 2,500. Later, they decided that Rs 3,000 would be charged per bus, Patel said.
"We have asked the state government to charge Rs 2,500 per bus per month. But they said they will charge for every trip which we think is unfair," he said.
