BHEL bags Rs 375 crore order from Middle East

State-run Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has bagged a Rs 375-crore order from Oman for supplying and erection of two gas turbine generating units of 126 mw each.

The Indian company will supply the gas turbines to Petroleum Development Oman (PDO). With the present order, BHEL will have 15 gas turbine sets installed in Oman, the company said in a release here today.

The company will manufacture the gas turbines at its Hyderabad plant, while control systems will be manufactured in Bangalore.

The order is first under a six-year ‘Price Agreement’ (rate contract), signed in January 2009, for 126 mw rating gas turbine generator packages’ with PDO. The rate contract has a provision for further extension by another 3 years.

PDO, a company, majority owned by the Government of Oman with the balance shareholding by Royal Dutch Shell, Partex and Total. BHEL has executed four power projects on EPC basis.

BHEL has earlier secured and executed 14 major contracts in the past 14 years in Oman. These contracts include seven power projects on EPC basis for sectors like petroleum (Petroleum Development Oman), utility (Ministry of Housing, Electricity & Water, Oman) and industry (Oman Cement Company).
