BHEL bags Rs 5,040 cr Contract for installing 4x600 MW Thermal Sets

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured a prestigious contract for setting up a 2,400 MW thermal power plant (4x600 MW) in Chhatisgarh. Jindal Power Limited has reposed confidence once again in BHEL’s proven technological excellence, by placing yet another order on the company.

Valued at Rs.5,040 Crore, the contract agreement was signed today between BHEL and JPL in the presence of Mr. Vilasrao Deshmukh, Hon’ble Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises; Mr. Naveen Jindal, Chairman, JPL; Dr. Satyanarayana Dash, Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises and Mr. B.P. Rao, Chairman and Managing Director, BHEL.

For the same customer, BHEL has earlier successfully executed 4 units of 250 MW each at OP Jindal Super Thermal Power Plant (STPP) at Raigarh. As per the current contract, BHEL will install four units of 600 MW each in this extension stage of OP Jindal STPP, Raigarh.

Directors on the board of BHEL as well as other senior officials of the Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises and BHEL were also present on this occasion.

The order is testimony to the confidence reposed by IPPs in BHEL’s capabilities. It also reinforces BHEL’s leadership status in the execution of thermal power projects involving supply of state-of-the-art equipment, suited to Indian coal and Indian conditions.

BHEL’s scope of work in the contract envisages design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of Boilers, Steam Turbines, Turbo-Generators and associated auxiliaries along with state-of-the-art Controls and Instrumentation system including Generator and Station transformers.

BHEL has been committed to the nation’s power development programme and has reaffirmed its commitment to the Indian Power Sector by equipping itself for the future, by way of technology, facilities and trained manpower to meet the country’s power forecast for the 11th Plan and beyond. For this, it has already enhanced its manufacturing capacity to 10,000 MW per annum and is further augmenting it to 15,000 MW per annum which is proceeding apace and plans are afoot to hike it further to 20,000 MW by 2011-12.
