Amid reports that NTPC may invite fresh bids for the Rs 25,000-crore bulk equipment order, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) today said there is no technical discrepancy in its bid for the same.

L&T Chairman and Managing Director A M Naik said: "We are totally compliant...There's no problem from our side... whatever the problem NTPC has, you ask them."

According to power ministry sources, NTPC may have to re-tender its bulk order for sourcing supercritical equipments for its nine power generation units, envisaging an investment of Rs 25,000 crore.

The state-run power major had invited separate international competitive bids for sourcing boiler and steam turbine generator sets, i.e. 11 sets of boiler and turbine generators units last October.

BHEL and a joint venture of L&T and Mitsubishi have submitted bids for the boiler package and five companies-- BHEL, L&T-Mitsubishi, Bharat Forge-Alstom, Toshiba-JSW, Power Machines (Russia)--submitted bids for the turbine generator package.

Reacting to media reports that L&T's bid for the boiler package may be disqualified on technical grounds, Naik said, "There may be small technical issues here and there but we are the most competent company in the country."

NTPC Chairman R S Sharma also met the power secretary but declined to comment. "Unless it is put up to a competent authority, I cannot comment on the issue," Sharma had said yesterday.

Asked whether NTPC would take this matter up at its board meeting scheduled for June 21, Sharma said, "we may take up the bulk tender issue at the meeting."

Supercritical units are environment-friendly and improve the efficiency of thermal power projects. The equipment will be used in five power projects in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Jharkhand. These units are expected to come up in the 12th Plan period (2012-17).
