Okay, here’s a quiz: Which bank in the country is bigger than SBI? He knows the answer today, but didn’t when he was younger, GC Chaturvedi who is now the additional secretary in the department of financial services, admits. At an event held by Central Bank of India to launch its pre-paid gift card, Chaturvedi said he used to think that the State Bank of India was a bank of the various states in the country while the Central Bank of India was the ‘central’ (meaning really big and owned by the Government of India) bank of the country. Many people, he said, still associated ‘these feelings with the Central Bank’. After his speech, Central Bank of India Chairman S Sridhar presented a gift card to Chaturvedi — for his innocent admission, one presumes.
