A Bill will be introduced to regulate human genetic research as currently there is no law to govern this sector, Minister of State for Health Dinesh Trivedi told the Rajya Sabha today.
Trivedi said during Question Hour that the bill was being finalised by the Health Ministry as at present there are only guidelines for medical research on human beings.
He said the Biomedical Research on Human Participants (Promotion & Regulation) Bill will have provision for setting up a Biomedical Research Authority.
The minister assured the House that the proposed law would cover the entire gamut of human genetic research.
He also denied any provision, at present, for protection of medical data and genetic material.
However, guidelines have been issued by the Ministry, regarding exchange of Biological Material for its protection in case the material is to be transferred to another country, he added.
Rail: Several factors, such as availability of resources, change in technology and cost escalation, are responsible for delay in completion of some railway projects in Rajasthan, Minister of State for Railways E Ahamed said in reply to another question.
