BJD courted Left before snapping ties with BJP, says Jaitley

The betrayal meted out by the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Orissa is a black spot on the state politics and this move of the BJD is devoid of any political integrity, said Arun Jaitley, the national general secretary of BJP.
Addressing the media here, Jaitley said, “When the BJD discussed the seat sharing arrangement with our party for the Assembly polls in Orissa, it was nothing more than a farce. Actually, the BJD had negotiated with the Left parties on seat sharing even before the snapping of the BJD-BJP alliance which has now become evident from the comments of the Left leaders.” He pointed out that the BJD has perfected the art of betrayal and hinted that the electorates in Orissa would give a befitting response to the regional party in the Assembly elections. Jaitley said that the BJP would take the ensuing Assembly elections in Orissa as a challenge, adding, “The upcoming Assembly elections would be a turning point in Orissa’s politics.
The people of the state had accepted the BJP-BJD rule for over ten years and in the aftermath of snapping of the alliance, the non-Congress space in the state politics would completely belong to the BJP.” The senior BJP leader stated that his party would improve its tally in the Lok Sabha elections and attempt to form a government on its own if it was voted to power in Orissa. He further said that there was no question of forging an alliance with the Left parties who were opposed to Orissa’s economic development as well as industrial progress and instead backed the Maoists.
