Senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu has demanded that the government should come out with a white paper on Special Economic Zones (SEZs).
Addressing a press conference here, Naidu said, “BJP approves the concept of SEZs in principle, but opposes the undue haste shown by the government in approving them. We demand that the government should come out with a white paper on the SEZ policy and initiate probe into the irregularities committed while approving the SEZs.”
It may be recalled that the party’s former MP Kirit Somaiya had, in a press conference on Saturday, alleged that in the case of four SEZs approved for the state, norms were overlooked while giving the nod. Even the state government’s objections were ignored.
Reiterating the party’s stand on the Sachar committee report, Naidu said, “It is a part of the divisive politics of Congress which wants to hide the government’s failure on other fronts.”
“We are in the 60th year of our independence and most of the time, the country has witnessed either the Congress governments or Congress supported governments. So who is responsible for the plight of Muslims in India,” he asked.
