| BMS demands amendment in unorganised workers' welfare law |

Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) today demanded amendments in the law for welfare and social security of unorganised workers to remove "anomalies" and implement it by constituting welfare boards at the state level.
Although the government had enacted the law for the benefit of workers of the unorganised sector last year after demands by several trade unions, it is yet to be implemented, general secretary of BMS S P Sinha said here.
There are about 39 crore workers in unorganised sector, he said.
Alleging that the government neither provided funds for the purpose nor constituted the national social security board to implant it, Sinha said the states have also not formed the welfare boards at their level despite several request to all the chief ministers by the BMS.
Sinha said BMS would launch protest in the country for a fortnight from the third week this month in protest against the government's decision to disinvest the profit-making Navaratna companies and spiralling price of essential commodities.
Besides, a demonstration would be organised in front of the Parliament in the winter session, he said. Strongly opposing the appointment of contractual employees in different sectors including government departments, he demanded scrapping of the practice.
