BSE partners with NGO to sensitise people about girl children

The Bombay Stock Exchange(BSE) has partnered with Plan, an NGO working for child rights, to help sensitise people to invest in girl children for the nation's economic growth.
The BSE also launched a report "Because I am a Girl" today, which focuses on the economic empowerment of the girl child. It was also released simultaneously in 15 countries, including at the Sydney and Dutch Stock Exchanges.
BSE CEO and Managing Director, Madhu Kannan, who released the report alongwith ICICI Securities CEO, Madhabi Puri-Buch and Plan India Member of the Governing Board, Raj Nooyi, said "the BSE was privileged to partner with Plan and start a social responsibility programme for girl child."
The report reveals that 70 per cent of the 1.5-billion people on earth survived on less than one dollar per day and that 62-million girls missed out on primary education.
Plan works in 66 countries across the world and is funded by private donations since 1979.The organisation will continue to release such reports on the state of girl child till 2015, which would be the 20th anniversary of 1995 Beijing Conference on Women.
