BSNL eyes biz customers for FTTH services
BS Reporter / Chennai/ Hyderabad Feb 25, 2010, 00:27 IST

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is going all out to attract business customers with its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services in the Hyderabad Telecom District (HTD), said its principal general manager Rajeev Agrawal.

The FTTH system deploys services involving voice data and video communications irrespective of distance and location. It provides all communication facilities by using broadband and landline network, including Internet access, IPTV, video-on-demand, content-based services, interactive gaming and VoIP services.

“We have given demonstrations to about 63 large enterprises including Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited and the State Bank, which received overwhelming response. We are currently in the process of going for installations at 35 sites in the HTD. Another 50 sites are yet to be identified as part of the Rs 50-crore project,” he told mediapersons here on Wednesday.

Agrawal said BSNL was facilitating payment of dues in easy installments and wooing back customers who were disconnected with the system. For landline, up to 12 equal monthly installments (EMI) can be availed of with a minimum of Rs 500 per EMI for urban and Rs 100 for rural customers. In the case of broadband services, disconnected connections will be restored with installments fixed in a similar manner after receipt of the first EMI.

“We are extending the BSNL customer mela, being conducted at more than 100 locations in Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts, till February 26. Over 550 connections are being reconnected per day at the mela,” he said.

HTD, which has a switching capacity of 830,000 connections, has a landline (including WLL) subscriber base of 550,000 and 129,000 in broadband.
