China today said it wanted cordial relations with India. Its Ambassador Zhang Yan met Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Rajnath Singh in an effort to reach out to the main opposition party amid a war of words between the two countries.
During the meeting, the ambassador told Singh that the boundary issue was a “sensitive matter” and that there was a need for confidence building measures, sources close to the BJP chief said.
It is ironical China has to "reach out" to the opposition BJP to "explain" its version of the border dispute with India. There is no opposition party in China! It must have been unnerving for the Chinese ambassador to find the BJP support the Manmohan Singh Government totally and add its own misgivings about Chinese intentions. China should understand that in democracies like India while parties fight each other ferociously, when crucial national issues are involved they unite and fight the outsider resolutely! This is because the Congress and the BJP realize that the Indian voter will be unforgiving if they allow petty partsanship to weaken India's resolve in dealing with China and Pakistan the two enemies who work in concert to undermine India.
