Chouhan to review progress of JNNURM, Project Uday

Expressing dissatisfaction at the slow pace of works being carried out under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) and the Project Uday at different major cities of the State, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that he would himself review the progress of these projects every month.     

The Chief Minister said that the sanctioned and on going works under the JNNURM and the Project Uday should be completed as per the schedule by determining the project-wise time limit.     

Chouhan said this while reviewing the progress of the works being executed at major cities including Bhopal, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Indore and Ujjain under the JNNURM and the Project Uday at the secretariat here yesterday, an official release said today.     

He also expressed concern over the state lagging behind in respect of implementation of the projects it got sanctioned from the Government of India.     

It should be the endeavour of the state authorities to secure more funds for development of cities of the state maintaining its top position in respect of project sanctions and their implementation, the Chief Minister said.     

During the course of review meeting, Chouhan declared that from now onwards he would himself review the progress of the JNNURM and the Project Uday every month while state Urban Administration and Development Minister would review the them every fortnight.

Chouhan gave directives to set up a committee under the convenership of the Principal Secretary, Urban Administration and Development to accelerate the pace of works pertaining to the projects being carried out under the JNNURM and the Project Uday.     

Singh asked all the five municipal corporations where JNNURM and the Project Uday are being executed to initiate steps for appointment of project management consultants.     

Under the JNNURM, sanction has been obtained from the Centre for 42 projects worth Rs 2700 crore in four towns of the state namely Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur and Ujjain.     

Under these projects, 20 projects of infrastructure development and 22 projects of development of basic facilities and house construction in slum areas are being carried out.     

As many as 40,500 houses are being constructed for poor people in four cities under the mission.     

Similarly, it was said at the meeting that under the Project Uday, works pertaining to water supply, sewerage and solid-based management are being carried out at four major cities namely Bhopal, Gwalior, Jabalpur and Indore in the state.     

A total amount of Rs 1,754 crore has been earmarked for execution of these works being carried out with the assistance of Asian Development Bank and U N Habitat.
