| In a unique attempt to create a nationwide movement for manufacturing, a Post-Graduate programme for executives, called Visionary Leadership in manufacturing (PGPEX- VLM), was launched by V Krishnamurthy, Chairman, National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council (NMCC).

| The programme is in association with Indian Institutes of Technology, Kanpur (IITK) and Madras (IITM), and the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIMC), the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

| The eligibility for this one year, full- time residential programme, is a first class degree in any branch of Engineering along with a minimum of five years of experience, in manufacturing and related sector.

| The programme starts form 27 August this academic session, after a two-step process of an aptitude test and personal interview. The fee is Rs 5 lakh and the candidates may be self- sponsored or be sponsored by their employers.

| The programme aims at developing leadership and management skills with cutting- edge technology awareness. It is based on the need for incorporating innovation, design and prototyping in manufacturing.

| "It is a programme targeted at middle- level executives of the manufacturing sector who have the potential to become visionary leaders for the transformation of the organisation and take it to global standards. We at the same time are putting no compulsion of any sorts on these executives, they have the choice of going back to their job or spin their own business and provide jobs to others", said Shekhar Chaudhuri, director, IIM-Calcutta. |
