CITU open to support Air India employees
Press Trust of India / Kolkata June 23, 2009, 17:50 IST

CPI(M) trade union wing CITU today said, if was approached, it would support any agitation by the Air India employees, who are currently facing the possibility of having their June month's salaries delayed.

"Though, we do not have presence among Air India employees, we are open to support (them)," CITU state secretary Kali Ghosh said here today.

On the proposal for wage cut in AI, he said, CITU was opposed to it.

Air India had said that June month's salary to its 30,000 employees could be delayed by 15 days due to a money crunch.

The flagship carrier also came out with a proposal to cut the wage bill by Rs 500 crore.

The national carrier was also seeking fiscal support from the government to overcome the crisis.Meanwhile, CITU said all the Left-backed trade unions would hold a mass meeting in city against political attacks.

"On June 25 all the Left-backed trade unions will hold a mass meeting against the ongoing political unrest in the state. We predict (that) such political unrests would continue till the forthcoming Assembly elections," Kali Ghosh said.

The trade union body also sought Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee to clear her stand on the joint action against the Maoists in Lalgarh.

State CITU president Shymal Chrakrabarty said Banerjee, being a Union minister cannot say she does not know anything about the centre-state joint operation against Maoists. "She has to clear her stand on (anti) Maoists operation."

Ghosh said that CITU did not believe that a ban would help in controlling the Maoists, as experienced in other affected states.
