Talking to Business Standard, Naveen Munjal, director business development, CLP Power India (P) Ltd, said the company had applied for three transmission projects in India.

Out of these, two bids were floated by Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd and one by Power Finance Corporation Ltd.

The 100-year-old company generated more than 13,000 Mw in various countries, including Australia, China, Thailand, Taiwan and India, utilising different sources of energy such as nuclear, thermal, gas and wind.

Commenting on generation projects, Munjal said in 2003, the company acquired Gujarat Paguthan Energy Corporation Private Ltd (GPEC), which has a 655-Mw gas-fired combined cycle power station. Apart from this, CLP is working on four renewable projects in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka from which it is looking to harness around 350 Mw.

Commenting on the 1,320-Mw supercritical coal-fired power projects that the company has been assigned in Jhajjar in Haryana; Munjal said it would be the the company’s first thermal project in India. He said the company had even applied for handling the transmission part of the Jhajjar thermal project.

Commenting on the ongoing slowdown, Munjal said though the power industry was considered recession-proof, the tightening credit situation was affecting power projects as well. With several power companies facing difficulties in completing projects owing to credit crunch; CLP was looking to take over these, he said.
