The Karnataka unit of Congress today asked chief minister B S Yeddyurappa to call off the function scheduled in the city for May 31 to celebrate the ‘achievements’ of his one-year-old government, saying it would only be a ‘drain’ on the state exchequer.
“When there is no achievement under BJP government, where is the cause for celebrations. If the BJP wants to celebrate its victory in the Lok Sabha polls, it is free to do it at its own expense, but not using tax payers’ money,” KPCC president R V Deshpande told reporters here.
“Operation Lotus under which it engineered defections from opposition parties, acts of moral policing by saffron brigade, rampant corruption are the only achievements of the Yeddyurappa government,” he charged.
Deshpande demanded that the government immediately convene the legislature session to discuss issues, including drinking water shortage faced by people in several areas. KPCC working president D K Shivakumar also made the same demand.
