The National Conference today said the Congress will emerge as the single largest party after the Lok Sabha polls and there could be some "surprises" with the possible realignment of political forces.
"Congress will emerge as the single largest party (after the polls) which will put them into an advantageous position to cobble up post poll alliances," NC leader and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah told NDTV.
He said there could be realignment of forces after the declaration of election results on May 16. "We could be in for some surprises of realignment of forces after the results," he said.
NC President Farooq Abdullah echoed the similar view, saying the Congress will perform well in the Lok Sabha polls. "My own feeling is that Congress should do well...They should do well," he said.
Abdullah said people of the country wanted development and a government not run by "religious fundamentalists of one form or the other".
"I think they (people) want India to grow," he said. Abdullah is the NC candidate for the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency where polling is taking place today.
