Welcoming the Supreme Court's decision directing the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe complaints against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, the CPI(M) today said it was "shameful" for the BJP to continue to defend those responsible for the Gujarat riots.
"The decision...Is a welcome step, though a belated one. It is now imperative that the SIT investigate the complaint and submit their conclusions within the three-month time frame set by the court," party Polit Bureau said in a statement.
The party also said it was "shameful that the BJP continues to defend those responsible for the carnage in Gujarat".
Modi came under the scanner of the Supreme Court following a complaint that he, his cabinet colleagues, police officials and senior bureaucrats aided and abetted post-Godhra killings.
Now that the Hon,ble supreme court has ordered a pobe by the SIT to investigate into the allegations against Gujarat CM, Narendra Modi for his alleged involvement in the tragic Godhra train incident, it should be a golden opportunity for Narendra Modi and the bureaucrats as well as IPS officers present then in the government to clear their position without any apprehensions. To uphold the moral and democratic values, it would be appropriate for Gujarat CM, Narendra Modi to step-down now, till he is cleared of the allegations against him.
