CPSUs asked to tie up with 100 SMEs each
BS Reporter / Kolkata/ Bhubaneswar Dec 23, 2009, 00:41 IST

The industry minister Raghunath Mohanty today urged the Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) in the state to register at least 100 vendors under their wing within a year to facilitate growth of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

While the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has given the status of business development partner to 148 ancillary units, the Navratna company, Nalco has accorded ancillary partner status to 49 small units.

He said, ten CPSUs functioning in the state should work out a plan to register at least 100 small units and provide them business worth Rs 10 crore each annually.

The best three CPSUs providing incentives to the small scale units will be awarded by the state government, Mohanty said.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the National Level Vendor Development Programme (NLVDP)-industrial exhibition jointly organised by the state industries department and MSME Development Institute, Cuttack, the minister said, the Nilachal Ispat Nigam Ltd (NINL) has given work amounting to Rs 48 crore to the small units.

If other industries take similar initiative, the small units and the service providers will be able to register themselves as vendors and create large number of jobs.

Expressing his concern over the sickness in the small scale sector, Mohanty said, out of 42,000 industrial units in the state, 16,000 have become sick. In this context, the large and medium units can play a pro-active role.

Hemanta Sharma, director industries said, the annual event would provide opportunity to the small scale units to exhibit their products and the large units can check out the products which they can source from the small scale units.

Samarendra Sahu, additional development commissioner (ADC) under the MSME ministry, said, Orissa’s position has improved in the 4th All India MSME survey compared to the earlier one done in 2001.While the position of the state was between 16-19 in the earlier survey, this has improved to 13-16 in the latest survey.

Sauragh Garg, secretary in the industry department of the Orissa government said, a business order worth Rs 200 crore was generated in the country through buyer-seller meets. This year the government would monitor the volume of business order being generated in the state through this industrial exhibition.

It may be noted, a number industries both in the public and private sector like Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), Mecon, Bharat Dynamica Ltd, Eastern Naval Command, Rourkela Steel Plant, Tata Steel, Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL), Hindusthan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) are participating in the two day long industrial exhibition.
