Coimbatore-based CRI Pumps Private Limited has taken up the first pilot agriculture demand side management (Ag DSM) project launched in the Mangalwedha subdivision of Solapur circle, Maharashtra.
Under this, CRI Pumps would identify and replace 3,530 old inefficient agricultural pumps with energy efficient five-star rated pumpsets in the next 6 months.
The Centre in association with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has decided to replace inefficient low performing pumpsets in the agricultural sector with those that are fully energy efficient.
CRI Pumps managing director Rajendran said the agriculture sector used over 12 million electric pumps for irrigation. If the 600,000 pumpsets used per annum are replaced with energy efficient pump sets, it will result in a saving of Rs 2,500 crore. The project is estimated to cost of Rs 7 crore.
