CRY Appoints a New Chief Executive
Announcement / Economy Feb 08, 2010, 19:08 IST

The Board of Trustees of CRY – Child Rights and You, today announced the appointment of Puja Marwaha as the new Chief Executive Officer of CRY.

Speaking about the decision, Ratan Batliboi, Chair of the Board of Trustees of CRY said, “CRY is a unique organisation with diverse needs – from ensuring the highest degree of professionalism in utilisation of donor money to ensuring that we always act in the best interest of the child, to meeting the expectations of its 190 employees. In Puja we find that rare combination of maturity, a strong development perspective and solid business acumen that we believe is required to steer India’s premier child rights organisation through these trying recessionary times.”

Puja Marwaha, specialises in Human Resources Development and made the transition from the corporate to the social sector early in her career. For the past 15 years, Puja has built an organisational framework for CRY that fully embraces the concepts of justice and equity. Her work is focused on the creation of an organisational character that can balance the real social development needs of India with its emerging economic identity.

Puja joined CRY in 1994 to set up the organisation’s HR function. In 2002 she became the Director for the Western Region, a position she held till 2005 when she moved to South Africa with her family, only to return in 2009 to the same position. Speaking about her appointment, Puja said, “I am truly honoured by this opportunity to lead CRY. At times CRY’s dreams for children seem impossible but I believe that if each one of us finds it in ourselves to believe that change is possible  and acts on it, then we can work miracles.”

Puja believes that children should be at the heart of development. This belief informs her passionate interest and involvement in children and their potential. Over the course of her work, Puja has overseen the nurturing of a large number of organisations and people, enabling them to connect at the level of individual belief, to the vision of all rights, for all children.
