Cut that break
Business Standard / New Delhi February 11, 2009, 0:59 IST

Cutting costs are vital in these tough times, especially for an IT industry which is witnessing the brunt of the OECD recession. One of the many things IT major Infosys is doing is to encourage staffers not to stay on beyond 7 pm to complete project deadlines. So, staffers won’t be allowed to take a toilet break after 7 pm! To help them in this process, there will be no drinking water available after 4.30 pm, keeping in mind the fact that what goes in must go out. Infosys started implementing this new cost-cutting measure on Thursday, according to sources. It has also pasted advisories next to the elevators “encouraging” employees to take the stairs, “for better health”.

Hello, I'm not from Infy, but I dont believe this story. Utter nonsense, can anyone having common sense believe this? Now a days everyone is trying to & shows interest to disgrace the IT industries. People who are trying to find happiness in spreading & celebrating these type of cheap rumors beware, it will all remain just rumors & the worst may happen in your place, then others around you will be laughing at you. Mr Editor, we expect a minimum standard from you.

I am still trying to figure out the basis of this article. Praveen was right. Infosys can't and will never do this. Take my word.

FYI Infy had always been concerned about its employees health. As an eg the HALE health program in which a specialist doctor visits infy every week, whom we can consult free of cost(costs beared by company) and the message about take the stairs is always there as far as remember(I m with infy for more than 3 years now) to suggest employees to keep away from obesity And regarding the toilets and the drinking water thing, I have never ever found an infy toilet wet/dirty. That?s the maintenance in infy?..SPECKLESS, to such an extent that even the footpaths are hand washed with brush/scrub? :P Thanks, Rajitha Kumari K, A proud infoscion PS: No offense meant. Just an initiative to stop a rumour

I am Infosys Employee... The News is absolutely baseless.. Every one in Infy knows how Great the Facilities are... I would rate the Facilities here as One of the Best in the World... P.S: It is the responsibility of every individual to conserve energy.... Let us concentrate on those things instead of damaging a Great company....
Reply
  Reply by Vijayan:
Both Sathish and Foscian miss the point. I am all for conservation of energy and the role each of one us needs to play to ensure our resources dont get depleted. But inserting that point in the comment tends to lend credence to the report, even if Sathish did not intend to. Now if you dont get that, then like the gals said in that Maruti ad, you gotta be dumb!
  Reply by Foscian:
Well said Sathish, does not matter if Vijayan gets it or not. The above posting is way too much (suggesting that a person should not drink water at a particular time) but in general if all individuals feels the importance of conserving it will be good for everyone. The Hypocrisy evolved when a person does not spend money himself/herself to lavishly eat or drink, but when it is supplied free by the company they use it recklessly.
  Reply by Vijayan:
Sathish, what do you mean by it is responsibility of every individual to conserve energy? Are you saying that the alleged notice put out by the company is true? What nonsense?

Dont u know the current market situation...Its not Infosys is not doing all the great. IT field is not doing so great. Even in this situation Infy is doing much better than many of its competitors. Till now no salary cuts at Infy, even though many comapnies already implemented :) Even if it is going there, tats for future savings as recession still hasnt reached its bottom. Intellectuals always save for future even when they r confident enough :) Sitting before a PC and commenting on all this is much easier than managing a company Boss. :D Every company has to save for its future and employees future.
  Reply by raghav:
So you agree there are salary cuts and that the company is not doing all that great, right?

Stop publishing what ever nonsense that you find to increase publicity of your site. When organizations like Infosys / Wipro / TCS are facing problems to survive in this world, it becomes responsibility of every individual to take the ownership and reduce the expenditure. Appreciate if you could stop doing such negative publicity and concentrate more on the topics that require attention.
