Defence PSUs win Raksha Mantri awards

Two of the Bangalore-based defence public sector undertakings, Bharat Electronics Limited and BEML Ltd have won Raksha Mantri’s awards for 2007-08.

Four Strategic Business Units (SBUs) of BEL have won the Raksha Mantri’s Excellence Awards under various categories. The four SBUs are BEL-Hyderabad, which has won the Raksha Mantri’s Award for the ‘Best Performing Division’ among defence PSUs.

BEL-Ghaziabad, has won the Group / Individual Award for ‘Import Substitution’; Military Communication SBU at BEL-Bangalore, for ‘Design Effort’ and BEL’s Central Research Laboratory at Bangalore for ‘Innovation’ category.

BEML Limited has been conferred Raksha Mantri’s Award for Excellence for Best Performance in Exports under the Institutional Award Category for the year 2007-08. BEML has been bestowed with this Award for its outstanding performance in the export business among the defence PSUs. It exports touched Rs 200.62 crore mark during the 2007-08 which represents a growth rate of 81 per cent compared to previous year.

BEML has registered export sales valuing Rs 304.34 crore for 2008-09, a growth of 50 per cent over the previous year and has set a target of Rs 350 crore for the year 2009-10, a growth of 15 per cent over last year in the export front, as part of its overall business target of Rs 4,000 crore for the year. BEML’s overseas customer base has spread over 55 countries across the globe. The company has overseas office in China and established local companies in Brazil, Malaysia and Indonesia. BEML has orders of Rs 217 crore of export comprising of Rs 158 crore from Indonesia.
