| Delhi govt likely to implement Child Protection Scheme |

In order to provide a safe and secure environment for the children in the city, Delhi government may soon implement the Centrally-sponsored Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS).
The Planning Commission had recently suggested to the state government to implement the scheme in the city which has a large number of child beggars as well as street children, mostly runaways from the neighbouring states.
The Central government has already provided an outlay of Rs 1,073 crore during the XI Plan period towards implementation of this scheme which aims to improve the well being of such children who are vulnerable to abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
At a recent meeting with Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Planning Commission Deputy Chairperson Montek Singh Ahulwalia had stressed on implementation of the scheme at the earliest in the city as it has "issues of child beggars, street children and working children who need interventions from the state government," a senior official said.
The Planning Commission also emphasised on strengthening the Women Component Plan in the Women and Child Development Sector suggesting that the state introduce gender responsive budgeting by introducing gender perspective in its policies, planning and implementation across all the sectors, the official added.
