Donna Karan Studio to invest Rs 15 cr, expand retail presence
Press Trust of India / New Delhi Jun 02, 2009, 15:46 IST

US-based fashion design house Donna Karan Studio is planning to invest Rs 15 crore over the next five years to expand its retail presence and have 20 outlets of its international brands — DKNY and Donna Karan New York — in India.

"We are planning to invest Rs 15 crore in India by 2013-14 and our aim is to have a total of 20 outlets of DKNY and Donna Karan New York during this time," DKNY Brand Manager (India) Parrita Engineer told PTI.

The company, which ventured into India this March after a tie-up with realty major DLF Ltd's retail management subsidiary DLF Brands, is focusing on the metros and Tier-I cities for growth and plans to open stores in Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Chandigarh, Mumbai.

She said the company would launch its stores under three formats — DKNY ready-to-wear, DKNY jeans and DSK's luxury couture brand Donna Karan New York.

Currently, the company has three stores in Delhi NCR, including one DKNY ready-to-wear and two DKNY accessories outlets.

"Our immediate target is to double the number of our outlets to six by the end of the fiscal in March 2010. We are positioning our brands as a bridge to luxury with a price range of Rs 2,000 plus and an average price of Rs 9,000," Engineer said.

Engineer said that while the DKNY ready-to-wear stores would have an average size of 1,500 sq ft, the DKNY jeans stores would be around 1,000 sq ft in size and the Donna Karan New York would be of 600 sq ft.

"Our main target segment are youngsters in the age group of 18-30," she said.
