US stocks advanced for a fourth day on Thursday after JPMorgan's strong results boosted the growing optimism about the quarterly earnings season and technology shares increased in anticipation of more good news.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 95 points (1.11%) to 8,712. The Nasdaq Composite Index advanced 22 points (1.19%) to 1,885.

Patni Computers increased 2.5% to $11.67 and MTNL was up 1% at 3.92.

Sterlite plunged 13.5% to $11.2. ICICI Bank and Tata Communications were down 1.5% each at $29.35 and 19.54, respectively.
