DQE inks pact with Turner for mythological TV feature
BS Reporter / Chennai/ Hyderabad Apr 24, 2009, 00:57 IST

DQ Entertainment (DQE), a Hyderabad-based animation, gaming and entertainment company, has signed an acquisition deal with Turner Entertainment Networks Asia Inc, a Time Warner Company, for its new Indian mythological television feature titled ‘Omkar’.

This is DQE’s third successive deal with Turner for the Indian region, with the other two being for ‘Balkand’ and ‘Ravan’. The new strategic acquisition deal will augment Turner’s locally-acquired animation library to over 30.

‘Omkar’ revolves around inspiring and edutaining tales of Lord Shiva and his family comprising Goddess Parvati and their two sons — Kartikeya (known as the general of the army of the gods) and the elephant-headed deity of good fortune Ganesha.

“This strategic pact reaffirms DQE’s vision of reviving the Indian stories, using its expertise in all aspects of animation and live action, and bring to life the most anticipated feature on the life of Lord Shiva. ‘Omkar’, created and produced by DQE, will premiere on Turner’s kids’ channels – Cartoon Network, Pogo and Boomerang – in India in 2010. DQE will hold exclusive rights for home video, publishing and global audio visual rights other than Turner’s exclusive territory,” Tapaas Chakravarti, chairman and chief executive of DQE, said.

DQE, an AIM-London listed company, has started licensing and distributing its library, which includes brands such as Casper, Iron Man, Large Family, Mikido, Little Nick and the Jungle Book.
