Associated with the company since April 1997, Chigurupati was heading Dr Reddy’s emerging businesses strategic business unit (SBU).
The SBU comprises biotechnology, critical care, diagnostics and international branded formulations marketing.
Though the exact reasons for Chigurupati’s exit are not known, sources in the company said he is planning to start his own business venture in Hyderabad.
“He was relieved from the company on April 3,” the official spokesman of the company said. Jayaram was not available for his comments. Dr Reddy’s is yet to appoint a new head for the SBU.
Jayaram, a doctorate in biochemical genetics, worked for the US-based Viral Therapeutics Inc and the Wilkerson group before joining Dr Reddy’s.
He was responsible for the biotech initiatives at Dr Reddy’s. During his tenure, the company launched its first biotechnology product.
Though the company has a couple of biotech products in its pipeline including Hepatitis-B vaccine for over two years, it is yet to announce the launch of its second product.
