Eastern Railway (ER) has achieved record performance in the first five months of the current fiscal (April-August 2005).
The total revenue loading till August 2005 has been 18.846 million tonne which is an improvement of 1.974 million tonne over the loading performance of the corresponding period last year. The total earnings by carrying freight traffic of ER till this year August has been Rs 538.66 crore as compared Rs 422.13 crore for the same period last year.
The total number of passengers carried by ER has also registered a 10 per cent increase with an increase from 30.17 crore to 33.76 crore for the same period.
The passenger earnings or the revenue from ferrying passengers have increased to Rs 398.78 crore from Rs 357.82 crore.
