The electrical and electronics industry has asked the government to provide financial and policy initiatives to ensure the country achieves the additional power generation target of 78,577 megawatt during the 11th five-year plan period.
The Indian Electrical & Electronics Manufacturers Association, the apex body of the industry with a gross annual turnover in excess of Rs 110,000 crore, said the government should accord infrastructure sector status to the power sector by extending the benefits under Section 80 IA of the Income Tax Act (1961).
The electrical industry had posted a negative growth of 6.6 per cent in the second quarter of this year.
