Emami June qtr net up twofold at Rs 35 cr
Press Trust of India / New Delhi Jul 30, 2010, 19:29 IST

Kolkata-based FMCG player Emami today posted an over two-fold jump in its net profit to Rs 35.25 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2010, over the same period in the previous fiscal.

During the quarter, the company -- which had a net profit of Rs 15.55 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal -- said it has witnessed strong performance by some of its summer products as well as good growth in its overseas business.

"Emami has recorded substantial growth from its power brands like Navratna Oil, Boroplus Prickly Heat Powder, Fair and Handsome, and Menthoplus Balm," the company said in a statement.

The company's consolidated sales during the quarter grew by 28.2 per cent to Rs 241.95 crore as compared to Rs 188.69 crore, registered in the same period of the previous fiscal.

The company said that institutional sales grew by 112 per cent to Rs 16 crore, driven by introduction of new SKUs and brands in the Canteen Stores Department.

Besides this, revenue from its international business grew by 47.7 per cent to Rs 27 crore during the quarter, it added.

"While development of new products and new markets continues, thrust is being put on increasing distribution and penetration in existing markets and developing global brands," it added.

The company also said that its shareholders have approved sub-division of stock, whereby each share of Rs 2 face value has been split into two shares of Re 1 each.
