| Energy demand on the rise |

Andhra Pradesh chief minister K Rosaiah has asked the power sector to make optimal utilisation of hydropower in view of the rising demand.
The chief minister on Monday reviewed the energy scenario in the state.
The average energy met during December 2009 was 195.6 million units (mu), up 10.3 per cent from 177.25 mu during the same period last year. The peak demand met during December 2009 was 9,309 Mw, an increase of 10 per cent, from 8,482 Mw during the same period last year.
The Srisailam left bank power station has become operational and currently all the six units are available for service. Three out of the seven units of Srisailam right bank power station has been restored. The hydel power generated from April 2009 till now stood at 4,225 mu while another 1,275 mu was on hand till March 31.
The 500 Mw Vijayawada Thermal Station Unit 7 was delivering an average of 400 Mw and was expected to be stabilised by this month end, officials told Rosaiah.
The annual overhaul of thermal stations would be completed by this month end.
The government also proposed to electrify 14,334 habitations and 3.7 million rural households at a cost of Rs 810.33 crore under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojna, according to a release.
